2023 Marketing Trend Predictions

Happy New Year! It is time to start taking your marketing seriously. Whether you are going to upskill yourself, employ internal talent or outsource, it is important to understand what is going on in the marketing world. Read our 2023 Marketing Trend Predictions below.

Google, Instagram, the iPhone. All these things have something in common. Constant updates. The digital marketing climate is getting harder to fathom. I probably spend an hour a day catching up with updates whether it is regarding a social media platform or search engines. The changes are making marketing harder and less attractive for small business owners. But I am here to tell you not to be scared!

A piece of feedback I receive a lot from clients is that I make their lives easier. That is what I want to do for you. I want to help you to understand and be less scared of the M word! Part of this understanding is knowing what to expect. Here are my marketing trend predictions for 2023.

1. The Metaverse

The first one for me has GOT to be the Metaverse. The Metaverse is already beginning to shake the marketing world, so it is vital to understand it. In a way, I had been slightly apprehensive of the Metaverse, and that is because I did not understand it enough. Fast forward past a lot of research and conversations about it, here’s what it can do for your business:

  • Advertising space
  • Offer customers immersive experiences
  • Networking

If you’re a podcast person, here are a few episodes/series’ i enjoyed and educated me more about the Metaverse:

  1. Adweek and Meta collab, Metaverse Marketing – lots of insight into the Metaverse from Meta itself!
  2. Interview with Nicola Mendelsohn, VP of Meta – This is a personal episode interviewing the VP but the section about the Metaverse (they speak about it around 1:05:00).
  3. Into the Metaverse‘ – The presenters talk all things Metaverse, inviting guests with really interesting insight and opinion.

2. AI

Artificial Intelligence has been a trend for a couple of years now, and it evolves every day. There are AI solutions for almost anything, especially in digital marketing. Predictive text, algorithms and chatbots are AI we probably engage with daily. AI is constantly improving our processes.

One use of AI I have noticed people adapting to is copywriting tools. These tools are great for creating ideas and developing them and can inspire some great copy. The most recent one I have come across is a client using ChatGPT for LinkedIn posts. Things I cannot stress enough when using AI for content are:

  • Use for inspiration, do NOT copy and paste
  • Make sure the extracts you use fit your brand/personality – does it align with your existing content strategy?
  • Search engines and algorithms KNOW that you are using AI, so be careful when using it

3. Video

The shift to video in 2022 was drastic, to say the least, especially on social media (remember Make Instagram, Instagram again?). The type of video is up for debate. But the days of needing huge video budgets just for social media are gone!

There are so many ways you can incorporate video into your content strategy. From live videos (perfect for e-commerce brands) and stories (perfect for quick updates) to User Generated Content from your customers. The opportunities are endless.

The main point is – use video.

We currently have a january offer running for our branded video platform. This platform is a great way to begin implementing video into your content mix. Some of the features include:

  • Multiple video types
  • Royalty free music
  • Custom Call to Action
  • Logo (animated or static) intro and ending

4. Repurposing

It is great to see more and more content creators and businesses repurposing content. Repurposing content has always been a little misunderstood, but I think 2023 is the year people will start to understand, appreciate and implement the repurposing method.

Repurposing content is not a bad thing.
Repurposing content also is not publishing the same content over and over

It is being creative and publishing the same piece of cornerstone content, in multiple ways and on multiple platforms.

For example, I can utilise this blog to:

  • Publish as website content
  • Distribute content on all five company social media pages (using different copy, graphics and hooks for each)
  • Create a post on my personal LinkedIn profile
  • Send to sharing platforms and utilise for PR
  • Include in a promotional E-shot

Key Takeaways:

  • The Metaverse is here, and it is going to disrupt the way we do things. Utilise it.
  • People buy from people, do not rely on AI to create your content and speak for you. Use it for ideas and inspiration.
  • If video is not being used in your content mix, make using it be your New Years Resolution.
  • Make strong pieces of content. One strong piece of cornerstone content can produce multiple types of use and formats.
